On a June morning in 1792, no one could have missed the Discovery, the Chatham, the Sutil and the Mexicana anchored near the forested inlet that would become the City of Vancouver.
The senior British Captain, George Vancouver, breakfasted with his Spanish counterparts, Galiano and Valdez, and they agreed to chart the inlet together, looking for the fabled Northwest Passage. This painting portrays Vancouver as it was on that morning over 200 years ago and hangs today in the Mayor's Office at Vancouver City Hall.
